Know it can be done in photoshop, but was wondering if it was an in camera feature, especially since the Omnia i900 had it. Thanks for the reply though!

Ive finally gone ahead and got myself an i8910. Thanks very much to everyone's input on the forum. I have to say so far, the phone is stunning.
I do however have some questions. Please bear in mind that Im coming from Sony Ericsson's Pseries phones and UIQ, and Ive never had an S60 device (so some of my questions could just be my lack of knowledge).
Also, Ive updated to the Italian IG2 firmware since I purchased the phone in Italy it was a no brainer.
If there are 3rd Party apps that give this functionality, please feel free to let me know.
Questions:
- Where is the setting to adjust the volume of the Message Alert?
- The Screen doesnt seem to auto unlock when charging (so also when a car cradle)
- Also, the locking functions dont seem to be part of the profiles, so how can the locking functionality be set relative to what you are currently using the phone for?
- Profiles dont seem to be able to be set to change when connected to a device, eg: a bluetooth device (car handsfree?)?
- Where is the 'proper' user manual. I downloaded both from the Samsung website but they are very basic!
- Is there any way to adjust the scroll speed? Scrolling long menus (eg: contacts) doesnt seem very accurate. I either scroll too much, or not enough.
- How do I access the simlies when creating an SMS?
- Is there a way to change Font size per application (like in UIQ3)? It seems only a global setting?
- Even though Samsung includes several different Home/Standby screen options they all seem limited at best. Ive tried HandyShell, and it seems to be the type of thing Im after. Are there any other apps available like this (GDesk springs to mind, but Im trying to move away from everything being totally customised).
Thats all for now. Im sure Ill have more questions in due course!
(sorry for the big post)
THANKS

Excellent review.
After being away from the Symbian bandwagon for a while now and getting jack of my iphone 3GS (my last symbian phone was an E90), I've bought a i8910 16gb purely because of its screen and camera & CPU.
Hoping my S60 5th ed experience is going to be a good one. Phone arrives tomorrow

Hi Michal,
What happened to the much awaited Software Review?
I remember expecting it "in the next couple of days" back early in summer.
Then it was due early July... followed by someone mentioning it will be released after the new firmware is released...
Anyways... no replies in a long time... can anyone please tell me where all the people went... or Michal, any news from ur side?!

I am still waiting for the promised firmware update. So far, we've only seen the Italian one, requiring an Italian firmware to be present on the device for the update to be possible.

Yes, but I was told that the update was imminent and that's why I waited and waited... I just wanted to review a unit that's fully functional and with the major bugs fixed, but it looks that only Italians got an update (and even that only fixing some problems like e.g. the sound in video, but not e.g. Java issues) while the rest of the world got nothing (if we don't count, internal, non-public firmware updates available unofficially from some web forums).
Since nothing was released, I will not wait any longer for it. I will finish the Nokia N900 preview I am now working on and the Software part of the Omnia HD review will come next.

That's right. The problem is, as I mentioned, that the new firmware WASN'T released.

One other nation that got lucky was Hong Kong. Am enjoying the improved fw. Major thing there is the video quality fix (I mean the picture, not the sound - this one also got fixed).

There are now some "cooked" roms on the go, and they look very promising indeed.
Cooking roms undoubtedly saved WM, could it do the same for Symbian?

AFAIK, that Hong Kong firmware update wasn't a public one. The only update so far available "publicly" and officially, i.e. via PC Studio, was the Italian one. All the other updates were released internally, for service centres and not publicly to end users, and files available in the Internet are just leaks.
As I wrote, considering Omnia HD's great hardware and that it's the first S60 5th Edition device from Samsung, I wanted to give it an objective and possibly positive review, and that's why I waited for the update. But Samsung doesn't seem to be caring too much about it. Even the Italian update still doesn't have OTA server configured for future updates. Pity. If they continue to be that slow with bringing updates, they may as well manage to release a new model before bringing any serious update to the Omnia HD...
