Really nice version of PicoDrive - best I've tried and I agree the button configuration is really cool.

I was wondering how others assign the keys, because I have yet to find an optimal solution for playing for example platform games like Aladdin.

cheers
Peter

I've just uploaded a new version, check my first post. It now has full sound support thanks to Reesy's DrZ80 asm Z80 core. Sound chip emulation is taken from the MAME project. Also I improved speed (~50%) and did several other minor adjustments.

I'd like to thank 29A for doing quite a bit of beta testing with his A925, and all of you for your support!

Depends if I can get hold of the source of the Z80 core or NotaZ wants to make a S60 version of its own I guess. And as the most of the V2 devices are faster than the UIQ devices, I guess that music would be ok on those. The only snag is the limited screen access which always will slow down things abit.

The Z80 source is freely available, you can take it form
franxis' MAME GP32/GP2X sources.

Well.. don't be amazed about me.

Be amazed about Notaz (Cyclone improvements and bug fixing, PicodriveN implementation, Z80 & Sound integration etc), Dave (Final Burn/Cyclone/Pico/Picodrive libraries), Reezy(Z80 asm core), Gens (Audio Core), Mame (Z80 & Audio Core), ZLib (For zip support in S60),Charles McDonald (Genesis plus and Audio integration etc) and other projects and people contributing to get it all together.

So when and how I will be able to get it all together I don't know, as there are some fiddely bits to get right before it starts making more sounds.

Also I am intending to release the source for Picodrive, since I have been using some GPLd components.

Nice work notaz!

Don't suppose you'd like to elaborate on that a bit? Smile What have you done to get such a performance increase? My guess would be re-writing the VDP in arm asm???

The main issue stalling me from implementing Z80 sound support on the S80/S90 version was that it was only just about coping with 68k only sound!

The increase may look good maybe because I didn't do that well in previous release. Well actually I did 2 things:
1. Rewrote the main loop in VDP code in ARM asm. Did the same for blitting functions (which draw to device screen).
2. Recompiled everything with tools from Symbian GCC Improvement Project

Actually there is no magic here. It is playable in portrait mode, which uses only the top part of the screen (208x138), Sonic3 gives ~17-19 fps, which I consider playable enough. Fullscreen is much worse, only ~10-12fps (hardly playable for me), because in portrait mode it is possible to skip many lines completely and not to process them in VDP code at all to gain speed.

I just wanna say thanks for this super emu. I'm a Megadrive fan. I also have a question.

My roms doesn't work when they're zipped or rared, works only uncompressed. Is it wrong with my old P800 or is it just me? (Not that it mathers, I have plenty of space on my duo.)

Once again, thanks for this app, it's top of the hill!

I only wish that all UIQ emus have this kind of key calibration.

well, rar files are not supported, and zip files must contain only 1 ROM with .bin or .smd extension. Also zip files must be "classic" ones, not those "better compression" ones made with winzip10.
