Hi,

In guidance of French Frog and Gimmix I created the first set of Tabz Tracker skins ...

What is Tabz ?

Tabz is hopefully to become a nice set of tracker skins / UIQ 2.1 Themes (P900 only) for you to use that uses the exact same principal, icon size and layout/navigation but reflects different themes over all the different versions.

So if you feel like changing your skin from cars, to party or even the ice cold aArctic you no longer have to create all new shortcuts to find your way again in a new look ... since the structure is the same and you can reuse your shortcuts.

How many Tabz are there ?

Well for now there are already 4, but there are more to come in the coming weeks.

Currently released.

- Tabz Blue (site supporters only)
- Tabz Blue My-Symbian
- Tabz Party
- Tabz Arctic (site supporters only)

The tuning is done, so if you use the final version (as of 1.6) you can easily switch between the different versions.


What´s this with site supporters ?

Well if you like this site, you can support it (the link on top of every page) and by doing so, you get access to new skins and be the first to use them.

Not sure if it´s worth it, well don´t ... but you have the standard ones which you can download and use for free here, including an additional set of icons for you to use and a correspending theme (P900 only) ...


I am also thinking about a third one, but that will depend on the feedback if it´s worth considering it ...

Tabz Blue - My-Symbian - Final is updated and only has the My-Symbian branding on the first page ... offcourse the exact same version without this wonderful site it´s name is available for site supporters ...

- added lock icon
- added big menu - minimize - close buttons on main tabz for ease of us while on the move (just hit the big switch button on the main screen).
- moved clock in today view, so it´s no longer hidden when using the tray
- added menu-minimize - close - lock display and tray buttons to today view
- small cosmetic changes
- custom icons available in zip file
- added extra help in tabz.txt
- added switch back to main screen button (the white one below 4 on the left)

Currently available in version 1.06 > Tabz Arctic (site supporters only - the rest is coming soon ...)



Current Development plan (well even skins, need a development plan)

Current situation.
- Tabz 1.06 released.
- Symbianware announced the new Tracker version 4 - details

So basicly it´s waiting now for all the new features coming out. - Tabz I - will be frozen once we reach version 2.0 as this will be basicly the same moment when Tracker 4 is released.
From then on we will start with Tabz II, designed for Tracker 4.
The Tabz I themes will be ported to Tabz II.

As from then new developments will be made on Tabz II.
New themes will not be downported to Tabz I (unless their should be a big problem with Tracker 4 and we all want to keep on using Tracker 3.2).

- also a minimise button would be nice as the theme is full screen

Hmmm, I guess that would take away the fun ... anyway the source is quite complicated and I guess it would end up in being more a mess than any great addition ... anyway if I get fed up with it I might give you the png files ... but not for now

When it comes to your favorit background, I am considering in making a special version of it with your 5 favourite images, but I am not so sure how I should handle this or if there is any interest at all in it ...

It was kind of thinking of doing this if you are a site supporter and make an additional donation to my-symbian, I create a special for you only version ... but dunno if anyone is interested in it and if Michal agrees with the idea ...

Anyway, the second theme for site supporters only is available. It´s called Tabz, The Arctic and a preview is available below.

Just say the word here, and I´ll send you the details.

It follows the same structure as The Party one, so if you want to know the looks and feel, you can always download and install The Part one from above.

Favourite backgrounds?
Does this mean that one can send you backgrounds and you will make new customized skins for everybody? Hope you have a lot of spare time

I'm really impressed by your skin. But I don't like to use skins with pictures that competes with the icons, just nice color backgrounds like this:

Not for everyone
Only those that are willing to cash up an extra donation for Michal, so it would only be a few ... anyway, it´s just an idea for now.

Thankz, and I will make a colored only version of Tabz, I fully agree pictures sometimes do distract to much or are not professional enough when at work ...

Err, I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing!
What I meant was "how about sharing the components of the skin, so we can replace the background with our own fave?"

I didn't mean to edit the layout/design (that would defeat the object of standard layouts) - just to replace the background with our own files and then rebuild the skin. Voila, everyone gets their own personalised Tabz skin without you having to make them all.

Or am I being dense? Are you planning to sell the skins etc?

I see what you mean, but if you would look closely at the skin you will see that the tabz when opened and also the left menu structure is transparant and covers the image partly, so most of the work is done in fireworks and sliced up and exported in different parts ... the compiling of the skin (and that´s the source code you are talking about) contains a bunch of transparant cut up images ... so it makes no sense in releasing that one (except for getting an ugly skin)

So if you want to replace the background images with your own standard ones I should give you the source png file so you can slice it up there, which I am not planning to do for now for various reasons like it is not documented and you won´t find your way in it anyway.

Maybe I make a light version, where the "background" image can easily be replaced, but than you miss the transparancy and integration I kind of like ...

The only thing attached to it is if you want the different versions and icon sets, etcetera you are to be a site supporter, it´s just in good tradition of Gimmix and French Frog ( and I know I am not one yet, either, but I will and I just thought I add my 2 cc to my-symbian).
